Plans Proceed For 2010 Crowley Clan Gathering

Mark your calendars for September 10, 11, and 12, 2010! These are the dates for the next Crowley Clan Gathering in Ireland. The Crowley Clan gathers every three years in County Cork. The last gathering was in September 2007 in Clonakilty.

The town of Macroom has been chosen as the site of the 2010 gathering. The gathering has never been in Macroom before. It is situated in a central location between Bandon and Bantry.

Registration will begin at 2 PM at the Riverside Park Hotel ( This will be followed by a wine and cheese reception and traditional music in the evening. Saturday will begin with a Crowley Council meeting, open to all, followed by field trips in the afternoon and the Grand Banquet in the evening. Sunday will include Mass at the castle, luncheon at the hotel, and music in the evening. Plans are still in development.

Macroom has many attractions to offer visitors. The impressive gate to the Macroom Castle is still standing, although the castle itself has been destroyed. There are several parks including a riverside park. There is the Bealick Heritage and Exhibition Centre which is housed in a 19th century corn mill. The 16th century Carrigaphooca Castle sits near the town on a stone outcropping.

Go fishing in the local river or go golfing at Macroom Golf Club and other surrounding clubs. You can also enjoy hill walking or cycling, as the area has various trails and pathways.
