Crowley Clan Gathering
Westlodge Hotel, Bantry, County Cork, Ireland
September 3, 4, and 5, 2004

Several months ago, we did an informal e-mail survey to determine how many people were definitely planning to attend the next Gathering and how many are possible attendees. We received many positive responses.

If you have not responded and plan to or may attend, please let us know how many will / may be in your party. No obligation, just trying to get an idea of number of attendees!

Go raibh míle maith agat! Many Thanks!
Slán, Tom Crowley, Taoiseach, Crowley Clan.

The Crowley Committee has finalized plans for the 2004 gathering. Several activities have been arranged for the event, including a reception, traditional music, Mass and visits to some interesting sites. Pre-registration and advance payment is encouraged to reduce your expense and to give the committee an idea of the expected turnout. Although you will need to arrange your own accomodations, we have gathered some contact information on hotels and B&B's in the Bantry area. All this information can be found below:

Program of Activities

Friday September 3, 2004

2:00 PM onwards: Registration at Westlodge Hotel. It is fair day in Bantry. This is an old and interesting fair. The rest of the day you can explore the fair, visit the Mill Wheel, the library site, or Bantry House. All are a short walk, but bus transport can be arranged if desired. Evening meal is on your own.

6:30 PM: Sherry and wine reception at Westlodge Hotel through the kind generosity of J.J. Crowley.

9:30 PM: Music at J.J. Crowley’s Pub, The Square, Bantry, featuring a few Crowleys.

Saturday September 4, 2004

11:00 AM: By bus and car to visit the following three locations:

11:30 AM: Carriganass Castle near Kealkil. This is an O’Sullivan Castle that is in the process of being restored.

1:30 PM: Gougane Barra Oratory. A beautiful little chapel set next to a lake. Picnic lunch, self-provided, is available for purchase nearby.

3:00 PM: Ahakeera, site of the Crowley Castle. Based on past gatherings, this will be one of the highlights of the weekend. Have comfortable walking shoes. An unforgettable experience! We also expect to have a demonstration by a Crowley knight in full armor, as presented by James Crowley of California, USA.

8:00PM: Banquet at Westlodge Hotel. Have a meal with Crowleys from all over the world and hear remarks from Brian Crowley, Member of the European Parliament (M.E.P.) and other speakers. Evening concludes with traditional Irish entertainment.

Sunday September 5, 2004

11:00 AM: Road bowling and visit to Kilnaruane Pill Stone. An expert will demonstrate the old West Cork sport of road bowling. Then, two person teams representing each country in attendance will compete, and all others will have a great time watching! The Kilnaruane Pill Stone is also very interesting. Both events are within 500 meters of the Westlodge Hotel. Lunch on your own.

2:30 PM: Outdoors Mass at Holy Well Shrine and Mass Rock at Beach. This is a very moving and unforgettable experience. All are welcome and encouraged to come.

While this concludes the formal Crowley Gathering weekend, there usually will be music and entertainment on Sunday evening. The Bantry Agricultural Show also takes place nearby today from noon to dusk and is quite interesting.

Tickets for Activities

If you choose to pay in advance please remit to your country rep listed below which will alleviate the expense of converting many remittances in many currencies. In addition to reducing your own expense, advance payments also allow the committee to have working capital and an idea as to how many will attend. Details on the current fees for the banquet and activities can be found here.
