From Marian's Desk
Can you believe that the Crowley Clan gathering is less than six months away? We have been talking about it and planning for it for three years now. But suddenly the event is just around the corner.
Have you made your flight and lodging reservations yet? My husband Loren and I have our flights and some of the lodging. We are both looking forward to meeting our old friends from previous gatherings and to meeting many new friends from around the world.
Loren is pretty good-natured about attending my clan's gathering. He does insist on testing some of Ireland's famous golf courses while we are there. And he has offered to do his "Spouses of Crowleys Support Group" for all interested parties! Genealogy is not one of Loren's interests.
Readers who haven't been to a gathering before have asked what to expect. I'm sure every gathering is different, but I can tell you to expect very friendly and interesting Crowleys from many countries. Although our schedule is full, you will have ample time to wonder around Bantry, to share family stories and histories with other Crowleys, and to get a feeling for what our ancestors experienced in their homeland. You may also get a feeling for what is known as "Irish time".
The Irish people are among the most friendly and talkative people in the world. If you haven't been to Ireland before, you are in for a wonderful experience. The countryside around Bantry is as beautiful as any in Ireland. The town of Bantry itself is a lively town filled with interesting shops, restaurants, and pubs. The best pub, of course, is J.J. Crowley's Pub on the town square.
Information about advance reservations and schedules for the gathering are on page two. Make your plans now. You won't want to miss this Crowley Clan Gathering.
