NB. About 300 coastguards served on Naval ships during the Crimean War. From this number approximately 1000 dossiers were compiled of those who served on HMS Caeser, HMS Royal George, HMS Princess Royal and HMS Boscawen. The description books contain the following information: place of birth, age on entry to ship, usual place of residence, whether married or single, complexion and colour of eyes and hair, trade.
