Crowley Clan Formal Kilt attire

The Crowley Clan Council has endorsed the recommendation made by the Taoiseach of a traditional clan dress consisting of:

  • saffron kilt (the traditional modern Gaelic dress of the Irish)

  • A plaid of the Munster tartan (as in the sample to the right)

  • Jacket as appropriate

  • Use of Crowley Clan kilt pins and brooches

  • A Tam O'Shanter or Gaelic bonnet

  • For the ladies: a sash of the Munster Tartan

We encourage all clansmen to dress as recommended for the Crowley Clan Gathering.

For those in the United States who are interested in a formal Irish kilt, they are available from Scottish Treasures in Southern California, as can be seen in the flyer below, modelled by our own Bill and Tamara Crowley !

If Clan members prefer a sash or necktie, then see the information below from a different vendor, based in Scotland.

Here are the links to the Lochcarron of Scotland website where they make the sashes (scarves) and ties in the Munster Plaid for the Clan Gathering.

Men's Munster Plaid Tie - $29.00

https://www.lochcarron.co.uk/munster-irish-tartan-tie

The men's tie is wonderful to wear to the Clan Gathering Banquet with a suit.  A Crowley Clan Badge may also be worn on the left side, above the heart, on the lapel of the suit.

The tie is also fantastic to wear throughout the year, at Christmas, and St. Patrick's Day.

Women's Made To Order Reiver Lightweight Tartan Sash [please select MUNSTER PLAID] - $70.00

https://www.lochcarron.co.uk/bespoke-tartan-sash

The sash can be worn as it was traditionally, with the women of the Clan wearing it on their right shoulder and fastened at their left hip with the Crowley Clan Badge.  The Clan Chief's wife, or female members of the Clan Council, would wear the sash on their left shoulder, and it would be fastened at the right hip with the Crowley Clan Badge, denoting their position of honor within the Clan.

If not at a formal Clan Banquet, the sash can be worn casually as a scarf that is gracefully looped around the neck, and secured with the Clan Badge pinned on the upper, left shoulder above the heart.

This scarf/sash is a wonderful investment that can be handed down for generations, and used at Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, or throughout the year to dress up an outfit.
